As a condition of HUD's Choice Neighborhoods Initiative (CNI) planning grant, the Montgomery Housing Authority (MHA) is required to implement an Early Action Activity (EAA) to signal real change within the planned community. After consulting with our partners and residents, MHA’s plan is for the installation of bridge lighting beneath the Union Street overpass along I85 at the north end of Paterson Court. The MHA has secured over $200,000 for the development of the EAA and is projected to be completed by the fall of 2022.

 

The Union Street EAA will fulfill the resident’s needs of lighting (which is something they highlighted when MHA was originally developing an EAA project) thus increasing safety and walkability. Union Street runs parallel to the east side of Paterson Court and abuts the Centennial Hill CNI offices. In addition, Union Street is a prominent gateway to downtown Montgomery, thus ensuring high, daily visibility of the EAA to Montgomery residents and visitors.
