About

The Choice Neighborhoods Initiative (CNI) supports the development of comprehensive neighborhood revitalization which focuses on directing resources to address three core goals: Housing, People and Neighborhoods.  To achieve these core goals, communities are encouraged to develop a comprehensive neighborhood revitalization strategy, or Transformation Plan.

The Montgomery Housing Authority (MHA) has spent the past two years developing said plan and submitted the final draft in December of 2022. Upon its official approval by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in June of 2023, the MHA now seeks to apply for the Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grant.

Through the CNI Implementation Grant, the MHA will be eligible to receive up to $40 million to implement the strategies outlined in the Transformation Plan.  The Transformation Plan will serve as the guiding document for the revitalization of public and/or assisted housing units while simultaneously directing the transformation of the surrounding neighborhood and positive outcomes for families.

The MHA is currently working to increase capacity, secure funding/leverage and engaging with community stakeholders to build the foundation for a successful grant application which is due December 11, 2023.
